John O'Groats to Land's End and back.

rainbow

Andy and Nick engaged on "Catch the Buzz" on 27 July when they treked 2000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in a double decker bus.

Andy Settle and Nick Higgins, youth workers for Charis-Marple Churches Community Projects, were joined by a group of volunteers as they treked around the country in their 1973 Bristol VR double decker bus raising the profile of their work amongst young people.

The community bus, or “Doris” as she is affectionately known, is out each week as a mobile hangout for young people in Marple and District. She offers the young people a place to meet friends and engage in sporting activities outside the bus, with free drinks and biscuits, a play station, music and much more.

And now it’s going national! The aim of the trek was to raise the profile of this type of work with young people, to encourage others to get involved and to engage in sponsorship of the trek to raise funds for further buses and fund a 3-year full-time worker post.

Bishop Peter, Bishop of Chester confirms he is excited about the prospect

Travelling over 1800 miles the stopovers modeled the sort of work that the bus is doing in the parks in Marple. Initial responses from contacts are good.

Stopovers

The Buzz's stopovers were at Glasgow, Inverness, John O’Groats, Edinburgh, Newcastle, York, London, Exeter, Land’s End Penzance, Bristol and Chester where they were joined by local volunteers and young people.
